Me and my wife have been thinking about implementing some "his and her money" (Discretionary spending) into our YNAB budgeting and give ourselves an allowance for us each month. We used to do this prior to using YNAB but stopped when we became debt free. The reason for implementing this now is mostly to introduce some accountability into our "fun" spending which has recently been burning fast through our budget and even savings.
I was thinking about setting up a "His spending" and "Her spending" category in YNAB and split/budget the allowance to those two categories.
We've somewhat agreed on what will fall under his and her spending; Unbudgeted clothes, stupid things on the internet, music, books, magazines, hobbies, girsl/guys night out, beer, wine, going out to eat, candy, soda, movies, shows and more.
Now here's my question: How do you guys track this effectively in YNAB? With budgeting everything to these two "fun spending" categories all the other normally used categories will go dormant. (Like music, books, beer.) Do you find that to be allright? I won't be able to drill down into these two categories to see how much I spent on beer without some sort of tagging, right?
Thanks a bunch!
