Yuvraj eager impress selectors ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part 1 ? October 12, 2012
Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, was pleased his performance in the recently concluded World T20 and says that he is ready to fight for a spot in the Test side for the upcoming series against England.
The national side failed to qualify for the knock-out stage of the event but the player, who recently recovered from cancer, made sterling contributions with both, bat and ball. India?s next assignment sees them taking on the English contingent in a four-match Test series, the first of which will start from November 15.
The left-hander is currently representing North Zone in the Duleep Trophy and believes that the time spent on the field will help his preparation for the forthcoming battles. "Duleep Trophy matches will be very important for me as it will be a good preparation before England tour. I am looking forward to these matches and if I perform consistently I can get back into the Test team," Yuvraj said.
England?s T20 skipper, Stuart Broad, is looking forward to play under new Test captain Alastair Cook, and has backed the left-hander to emulate the success achieved by the now retired Andrew Strauss.
Cook was appointed the longer version captain following Strauss? decision to bid farewell to cricket following the team?s home Test series loss to South Africa, which also put an end to their 1-year long Test reign.
With a tough tour of the sub-continent coming up, Broad feels that the team needs to get behind the new captain and help him start on a high. "Alastair has played lots of cricket under him as well, so I'm sure he'll embrace Strauss' leadership style and add it to his own style,? Broad said.
Sialkot Stallions? skipper Shoaib Malik, praised the all-round efforts of his side following their maiden win in the Champions League T20 against Hampshire last night.
After being put into bat, Hampshire managed a mediocre 143 on the board, with only Glenn Maxwell (42) scoring more than 20. In reply, the Stallions easily chased down the target, courtesy a match-winning half-century by Haris Sohail.
Despite their win, the Pakistani T20 champions were knocked out of the competition after losing to Auckland Aces in the opening qualifying match. The skipper however, was pleased with his team?s overall display. ?At least we are taking something home. Very pleased with the way we played together.?
